knabstruppers

Tiara equine - the source for Knabstruppers in Canada!

Picture
Tiara Equine believes that while a good horse can come in any colour, a discerning owner should have the choice of all the flash they can imagine in the horse of their dreams, and this should go hand in hand with athleticism and the easy going temperament that we have always strived to offer in our sale horses.

The Knabstrupper is a Danish Warmblood, and although it's origins are traced back to 1812, the breed has risked going extinct since then. In 2002 the first Knabstruppers were imported to North America, and it is estimated that they are only a few hundred KNN registered horses here currently. The Knabstrupper is valued for their excellent temperaments, trainability, stamina and amateur friendly natures, as well as their colourful coats. The breed shares the same coat patterns as the Appaloosa but are bred for english sport, allowing crossing with warmbloods and thoroughbreds.

Worldwide there are estimated to be a few thousand of this rare breed, with only up to 400 in North America, and less than 30 in Canada. In 2016 Tiara Equine imported two impeccably bred Knabstruppers from Denmark and became the first Ontario based breeder of the rare Knabstrupper, and the only Canadian facility to offer a homozygous stallion standing at stud.

By fall of 2018, Tiara is pleased to say we are now home to 11 Knabstruppers, and with several mares in foal, and many connections within Canada, the USA and Europe, we are THE SOURCE for Knabstruppers in Canada. We strive to produce athletic, all arounders suitable for amateurs and professionals alike, and are very pleased with the results of our first breeding season. We use top quality warmblood mares from traditional sport horse lines, as well as harness lines to add refinement, height and expressive movement.

In October 2017 Tiara Equine proudly ho
sted the KNN during their first ever Canadian tour for inspection of Knabstruppers, and outcross mares.

Lindegaards Elliot

Picture
Lindegaards Elliot (John Wayne x Elmegaards Efrodite) is a 2013 Knabstrupper Stallion bred in Denmark and Imported in 2016. After a lengthy search in North America and Europe, Tiara Equine selected Elliot as the perfect match to be the first homozygous Knabstrupper Stallion to stand in Canada.

Elliot boasts beautiful, elegant gaits, and a phenomenal jump. He is bred with enough blood to produce excellent sport horse types, rather than traditional, baroque Knabstruppers. At 2 Elliot stood 16.1 and we expect him to finish close to 17 hands. We expect him to add height, refinement, movement and an excellent jump as well as colour! Elliot is DNA tested few spot LPLP PATN1patn1. He will pass on the colour producing LP gene 100% of the time, and will produce 50% leopards, but offers the excitement of blankets and roaning as well. Elliot is homozygous bay, does not possess the grey gene, and will only throw bay or black offspring from all colours of mares.

In October 2016, he attended his Inspection in Virginia where he received a breeding license for 2016/2017, and won both Best Stallion and Best in Show at the Keuring.  This makes him the second KNN approved stallion in Canada.
In 2017 he added Canadian Sport Horse to his registrations, meaning offspring can be dual registered by KNN and CSHA. We look forward to having him complete both Inspections as he matures. We welcomed his first foals in 2017 who are big, beautifully put together, and excellent moving young stock with beautiful heads and lots of presence.

Elliot is available to approved mares by fresh chilled semen and has had excellent success both locally and in the USA, with 6 foals on the way from 6 mares bred in 2017. His introductory rate is $1200.
